QUALITY OF LIFE

Quality of Life

Yuma County’s rapid population growth and its popularity among retirees and

winter visitors says a lot about quality of life in this area.  The Daily Source for Entrepreneurs ranks Yuma #1 for job creation and other signs of business vitality.

Recreation

Southwestern Arizona is widely acclaimed for its natural amenities, climate, cultural diversity and unique recreational activities. Located on the Colorado River just 90 miles from the ocean, Yuma embodies all these natural qualities which make it a

great place to live and work.

In all, more than 660 acres of parks, athletic complexes and trails are available for public use. Accredited schools, arts, culture, and low cost of living  make Yuma one of the finest and fastest growing cities in the country!

For more information, visit the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce.

Climate

Although the Yuma region experiences high temperatures during summer month, we maintain a narrow margin for temperature extremes. Yuma's temperature range is 93 degrees from the hottest to the coldest temperatures for the entire year. There are 21 states that have temperature extremes of 130 degrees or more.

Crime

Property & violent crime weigh heavily in an area's quality of life.  With the

exception of San Diego, Yuma ranks second (Metro/Micro Populations) for lowest crime rate per 1,000 residents at 2.918.

Arts & Culture Events

Yuma County has a wide variety of arts and cultural events throughout the year. A good source of information on upcoming events is the Yuma Fine Arts Association (YFAA) website - http://www.yumafinearts.com/index.html

Library Resources

The Yuma County Library District (YCLD) serves as your center for information, community enrichment, recreational reading, and lifelong learning.

YCLD is your "Information Connection." Library cards are free to Yuma County residents and property owners and can be used to check out books, CDs, DVDs, cassettes, and videos. Children enjoy story times, puppet shows, participate in the annual Teddy Bear picnic, and read to earn prizes in the Summer Reading Program. Computer classes are available in English and Spanish, and all locations offer PCs

with Internet access for public use. YCLD offers databases that provide information on a wide range of topics including business, health, literature, current events, general interest, and auto repair, and with your library card, you can even access most of

them from home!

The Yuma Main Library is located at 350 Third Ave, and branch libraries are

located in Foothills, Somerton, San Luis, Wellton, Dateland (located in Dateland Elementary School), and Roll (located in Mohawk Valley School).
